Crossing the Desert. The journey from one side of the country to the other is indescribable. Today's road follows the route of the original settlers along the course of the river Chubut for two hundred kilometres of the 600+ kilometre journey. There is a handful of settlements on the way across and little has changed since the original settlers found their way across and since man first came to this region more than 10,000 years ago.

Explore the area by foot and by boat; see glaciers and lakes of the purest water; gaze at the immensity of trees over 3,000 years old. And in the Park, nature is at its wildest: pumas and eagles still track the native deer and condors still track the pumas to claim their share of the leftovers.

Fishing. Fishing deserves a whole section dedicated to itself! There are so many ways to try your luck in the region around Esquel (about to be officially named as the Fly Fishing capital of Argentina). Under Argentinean law, all water is public property and, if you can reach a fishing spot, you can fish it. All you need is to be in Argentina during the fishing season and with a local licence. It is your choice whether you stay in one or more private fishing lodges or whether you just hire local guides on a daily basis or whether you just go it alone with a map, a rod and a positive attitude. But whichever option you choose, practise casting in the wind before you come! And if you are the long-suffering partner of a fishing addict, don’t worry, there are many other things to do while the fish are being caught.
